Bed & Bath Update - Before & After

I undertook a very big project over these past few weeks, but one I had been wanting to do since we bought this house four years ago.  I painted the master bedroom and part of the bathroom.  Of course it would have been so much easier to do before we moved our massive furniture in here but at the time I didn't know what colors I wanted.  Sometimes you have to live with things that you don't like for awhile until you know what you do like.

But I'm so happy with the results and excited to share the photos with you.

This is a before of the bedroom right after we moved in.  I could have sworn that I had more photos of the bedroom but apparently not.
This is a photo of the bathroom.  Much too large in my opinion but since the bathroom we had before this was teeny tiny I'm not complaining too much.
These next two photos give you an idea of my decorating ideas.  Now take in mind that I lived in this house and the house before this one for seven years with almost nothing on our walls (mainly because Jason and I didn't know what we wanted - or couldn't agree on what we liked) before I started working in the design business and getting an eye for things and decorating.  Of course, I'm still learning and evolving.
Now I'm not too excited to share this photo with you, as I'm a bit embarrassed to share what it looked like, but you can't get a full impression of how far we've come unless you see it.  I also just took the photos and things I already had and basically just put them up where I had hooks or nails already in the wall.  Again, not proud to share but I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done that.
This is what the room looked like while I was painting - everything smooshed into the middle of the room.  It almost felt like being back in our old, smaller home.  You can see the new color here.  It looks grey sometime and then more taupe as the room darkens.  I really wanted to do a darker brown color but we only have two windows in this room and we don't get any direct sunlight, so I was concerned with it being too dark.  But I'm happy with the color, as I had originally wanted to do grey in this room.
I'm proud to say that not only did I do all the painting myself, I also hung 99% of the things on the wall too.  Originally we had just the plaque above the bed but I always knew it was missing something, I just didn't know what until I got these round mirrors.  I love how it looks now.
Getting ready to paint the fireplace wall a darker brown color.
Here is the start of the bathroom.  I opted to just do this wall and the water closet (do they still call it that???) since this room has vaulted ceilings and I didn't have a ladder tall enough to reach those!
Here is the finished water closet.  I think the color goes much better with the little zebra print storage cabinet in the corner.  I also moved the London print from the bedroom to this room.  It didn't really go with the theme of the bedroom and it looks much better in here.
It's fun to just take a little something from here and there and repurpose it somewhere else.  Here I took a candle holder and candle that used to sit on my bathroom counter then in my bedroom.  I like giving a little height to this piece of furniture.  I also took a photo of Jason and I from our trip to Hawaii several years ago and set it in here.  Nothing better than having something nice to look at when you're sitting around.  LOL
Here I took two photos that used to hang beside mine and Jason's sinks.  These came with us from our old house and I like them here much better.
I think this is my favorite part of the room.  Here is where I used to rock my babies to sleep and now is just a little area of relaxation.  I replaced on old fake tree with a real one and cleaned off the mantle.
The London picture that now adorns the wall in the bathroom used to hang it - all alone.  I've replaced it with a wedding photo, a decorative picture and a king and queen crown (appropriate, don't you think?)
Here is the view of the darker colored fireplace wall.  This is the color I originally wanted to paint the whole room.  I think it would have looked beautiful in here but I'm happy with what I've got.  It's not as dramatic a color difference as I wanted but it works.
I fell in love with this mirror from Ballards.  I hung it a bit higher than I thought/wanted (a recurring theme for me) but for now it will work.  I like how clean this looks now.
There are still a few things we need to do to the room. We have to rehang the curtains but we're changing out the curtain rods and need to buy new wall hooks for them.
Moving into the bathroom, while I didn't paint around here I just wanted to show how I moved the picture frame that used to hang over the dresser into the bathroom.  The photos in there are from a couple weeks before Jason and I got married that a friend of ours took.  I have a photo of the boys all playing in the tub together that I want to put in the middle.  I saw that at another friend's house and I loved the idea.
Here is the other end of the tub.

Here is the the painted wall with (finally) a towel rack added and a new piece of wall art.
A full view of the bathroom.
Back to the bedroom, this is directly across from the bed and next to the bathroom door.  The top of the dresser used to hold SEVERAL photos.  I was encouraged to loose the photos and go much more simpler.  It might need just a little something up top but I don't know yet.
I removed photos that used to be above each of the bedside tables and replaced each with a door bucket (another idea I stole from someone else's home).  I need to fill them still but haven't had a chance to get out to the store to find the right filler. But this is a fuller view of the room.
Another change we made was moving the armoire flush against the wall.  Before it was at an angle as we had intended to hook up the TV inside but we decided we didn't need or want a TV in the room.  It gives us A LOT more room and opens up the area.  The boys were not happy as they used to hide back there when playing hide and seek.  At some point I want to get a full length mirror to lean against the wall over there.
I'm proud to say that I did this room redo all by myself, minus hanging the mirror and the towel racks.  It was fun but a lot of work - especially with little boys!

I hope you enjoy the before and after pictures and maybe even got an idea or two for your own home.

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...

Summer is Lacrosse

This summer was especially busy for us as Jack played on TWO travel lacrosse teams and Wyatt played his first year on one. We only had one weekend where Jason and Wyatt headed off to Nashville, TN while Jack, Ethan and I stayed here for each of their tournaments.  This was Wyatt's oh-so-happy-to-get-his-photo-taken face before they headed out to Nashville. I just loved the shirt!!  This was the set up we had for Jack's tournament in town. Ethan was happy as a clam with shade and his iPad!!  Jack had a phenomenal first tournament and was directly responsible for almost all the teams goals. He looked awesome and he joked it was because his annoying youngest brother wasn't around. Boys!  Just a few shots of Jack playing.  Summer also means supporting our local professional field lacrosse team, The Atlanta Blaze. Jack and his buddy Zac had the privilege of working with the team's head coach through the local youth Thund...
We have traveled around the SE for lacrosse tournaments in the past but this year we had the opportunity to travel to Denver, CO for one. I think it was one of my favorite. We tried to make it a family vacation as well, so we traveled in early the day before and spent some time exploring.  We headed down to Rock Park in Castle Rock and did a little hiking.  See that big rock in the background? Yup, the boys climbed all the way to the top. Ethan and I made it to the base of the rock while Jason, Jack and Wyatt climbed up top.  Ethan and I messing around waiting on the other boys.  Photos of the boys up top.  Our first game was an evening game, so we had most of the day to explore and get used to the altitude (which definitely got to the boys once they got on the field). The fun part of having good friends on the same lacrosse team is you get to explore together. We all drove up to Red Rocks to expl...
