Sustainability

Last weekend we took full advantage of the one day of good weather to plant some fruit trees and bushes in our further attempt to be more self sufficient.  We have long talked about adding fruit trees to the second tier in our backyard and we finally just bit the bullet and did it!  We started off with three apple trees; Granny Smith (the only apple Jack will eat and my favorite for baking with), Yellow Delicious (must have for cross pollinating and one of Jason's favorites) and a Winesap (I wanted a Pink Lady but they didn't have any in stock so we thought we'd try this variety).  Hard to see the tree planted due to all the background trees but it's there...  Hard at work!  Second tree in.  After planting the third tree we realized we had room for one or two more, so off we went to the nursery to find more!  While we were there we decided that three apple trees should produce more than enough apples so another fruit tree might be better.  We tho

Kisses from the Cornwell's

I hope you've all had a nice Valentine's Day.  Nothing fancy around here, as I'm getting over a bug and Jason is in Miami for work.  But the holiday is mostly for the boys anyway!! I got them some cupcakes and goodies, and I have a caramel apple waiting for me once the little love bugs get into bed.  We had a crazy morning taking Ethan to the doctor then running several errands, so I was extra nice and let Wyatt have a Valentine cupcake after lunch instead of waiting until after dinner.  He was so cute to watch!!  We don't go overboard with gifts but who can resist a new animal friend, a couple of special candies and a balloon?  It's all about the presentation!  Even the simplest of gifts looks bigger and better if dressed up a bit.  Jack had to make his own Valentine card collector box at home for his school card exchange and this is his box with his goodies!!  It's near impossible to get a photo of them altogether anymore

Happy 5th Birthday Ethan

I can't even wrap my head around the fact that Ethan is 5 years old!!  Where did the time go? I look back to the day he was born and all the unknowns and I look at him now and wonder why I was so worried.  He is the perfect little guy for us and is doing amazingly well.  "They say it's your birthday...it's my birthday too, yeah!" I always think of this song since Ethan and Granddad share a birthday.  And even though we haven't spent the day together since the first one, thanks to the computer, we always get a video chat in and can sing to one-another.  Ethan always gets overwhelmed at lots of presents to open (I wonder if that will change one day?) so we always end up opening gifts for several days.  We started early with the present from Granddad and Nana in the early afternoon so they could enjoy seeing him open their gift.  Open, open, open.  What's inside??? New puzzles and a book!  Did someone say cake???  Happy birth
