It's hard to believe we are already three weeks into the new school year. I do miss our summer fun and lazy days but now we're back into a schedule, which is a good thing too!
Ethan and Jack started school the first week of August.
And they were (mostly) ready to go.
Wyatt started the following week and was really excited to go, which was a HUGE improvement over last year when he really didn't like going. Now he looks forward to the three days he goes and talks all about his day on the way home (last year he would tell me, I don't want to talk about it).
Jack started the school year off with an infected thumb from a hangnail that got ripped too close to the skin. OUCH!
He had to have it drained and then wrapped up.
Wyatt loves to sit in the front seat once we get to the drop off line and it reminds me how Jack did the same thing when he went to preschool. I wish I could just stop time and keep them this little.
Below is a picture of Ethan at his desk in the general education classroom, where he currently spends half his day. It has been a rough start for Ethan, getting back into the school routine and being in the general education classroom, but I'm determined to work with him and his teachers to make it a great year!!
Every day the boys come home from school, have a snack and then sit up to do their homework. Ethan has been doing a great job with me doing all the work they send home from school and all the extra stuff I've found to do with him as well.
Ethan is a master at spelling his name and over this past weekend was able to spell four other small words just by my saying the work and sounding out the letters.
We did sight words last year with flash cards, and while that worked well to start, Ethan quickly became bored. So I researched other ways and found this fun one. I've put up all the sight words as I get them and then every time we walk by the Word Wall he says the word and smacks it (like a high-five). He LOVES it and has managed to learn much more quickly this way.
As you an see, we've added more words now that he's learning them so fast.
My next goal with him is reading. I've got the book Teaching Your Child to Read in 100 Lessons and plan to start right after Labor Day.
I think if we work together, this will be a great year for everyone.
