Got My Decorating Mojo On

I promise I will get back to posting my Christmas pictures (along with my Thanksgiving pictures and even way back to our Seattle trip ... oh my goodness) but I wanted to share my New Year decorating photos as it took me awhile to get my decorating mojo on and I know several others who were looking for their inspiration too!
I love the newness of a new year (is that redundant?) so I like to switch things up and not do the same thing over and over, although I do like some elements that are the same, as you will see in the photos.  This photo above showcases how I finally think I have overcome my biggest issue - trying to hid the cables from the computer modem.  Not sure if it's the best, but for what I'm working with I'm FINALLY happy.  I started with adding a small lamp, which I love.  I'm a big fan of light coming from other sources other than just overhead.  It's taken me awhile to incorporate light sources in the rooms, but I'm doing it slowly.
I've become a fan of this little triangle on our entryway table.  I change up what I put there but I like the look of the shape.  I do want to find a larger candle or a small ball of greenery.  But it looks fresh and clean!
I absolutely LOVE my Olivia Antiqued Bowl that I got from the Willow House sale.  I had it on my dining room table filled with greenery and Christmas balls but wasn't sure what to do with it after the holidays.  The I found these lightweight rocks (which is fairly tempting for my boys but I went with it anyway).  I love the sentiments and the colors fit my formal living room.  Simple.
Here's a closer look of my challenging bookshelf.  I use my cookbook stand to hold old calendars that have photos of the boys over the years, which is nice to have close to hand.  I'm always tweaking but for now I'm happy with the look.
This is the most tempting room for Wyatt, as he's constantly asking and even trying to get into my Corondo Stone Pedestal to get the conversation hearts.  I had left the pedestal empty for awhile, not sure if I wanted to put Valentine's decorations out yet, but I decided it was a nice look and the colors matched the room enough.
I know in the world of decorating you don't need to decorate completely from one end to the other, but I like the look of my mantel.  :-)

I loved putting my cloche on top of my pedestal over the holidays so I left it and just changed out what I had inside the cloche.  Again, I'm always fiddling and tweaking until it's just right.

I absolutely LOVE my Odessa Planter (are you sensing a pattern here?  I seem to LOVE everything!), which makes it so easy to plop and drop different plants inside. I took out my poinsettia from Christmas and added a beautiful tulip plant.  The best part is that it's so easy to pick it up and find a nice sunny spot in the house and then move it back.
Here I added a pretty little blue bird to my Hawthorne Triffle and put it next to my birdhouses on the Lyric Candelabra.  Now I just need a little birds nest....
I've used my Ruffled Glass Bowl all over the house, most recently as a Christmas candy dish.  But I wanted something to hold all my pretty drink holders I've gotten over the years.  If I see them I'll remember to use them when I'm hosting a party, otherwise, out of sight, out of mind.
I hope you enjoyed a small tour around my home and that it has given you some inspiration.  Next up I'll be repainting and redecorating my master suite!!

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...

Busy week

It's been a busy week with little things here and there, which is getting me ready for the busy summer ahead of us with gymnastics, swimming and all Ethan's therapies. Whew, I need a break from just thinking about it. We did have a nice walk down to our community playground this afternoon. Ethan couldn't stop laughing on the swings and the slide (he couldn't get enough of the slide) and Jack made a little friend! Great afternoon. Speaking of therapies, Ethan starts his occupational therapy next week and I'm so excited. We got the therapy notes back from his evaluation and, while I'm not positive on how I'm reading it, the scores say from poor to very poor. We have been very lucky that Ethan hasn't had any medical issues and so far he seems to be doing well with responding to his therapies, so I really want to make sure he has the best of everything. Today has just made me a little blue thinking about Ethan not being 100% of what other kids are and ...

Last Day in Prague

Our last full day in Prague. We had a late night parting the night before and a very early morning excursion but this was the one I was excited for! We did a similar excursion in Italy and loved it too. This was an awesome city bike tour to the Vysehrad Castle. We stopped for photo ops along the way - including here along the Charles River. But it's all fun and games until someone gets stopped by the Polizia! Before we left on our trip I was told to make sure you stay away from the police, so I was surprised to come up the big steep hill to see Jason stopped by one. I guess our tour guides didn't get the permit to ride in the park (too close to kids and a school). We had all just come up a big steep hill and were separated from the front of our group. Jason stopped to wait for me and the rest of the group to make sure we knew where to go. We had three guides, on leading, one in the middle who pulled away from Jason, and then one at the back. ...
