The Look of Love

I LOVE decorating for each holiday and season. I'm not sure if my family likes it as much as I do - but one can hope!

I also love the look of sparkly candy in a glass bowl - so pretty!

Sunday was spent making those pretzel sticks. First, I dipped them in caramel and then after drying, I dipped them into chocolate and then added sprinkles.  The plan in my head didn't turn out so well as the caramel stuck to the wax paper and I had to work really hard to get them off without the paper sticking to them.  Even after I dipped them in chocolate the caramel still stuck to everything.  Needless to say, I lost a few.  But they are delicious!  I had hoped to send some into school this week for our Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week and/or Valentine's Day on Friday, but we're currently homo on snow days and I don't think we'll be back until after our Mid-Winter Break next week. Sigh.
Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?  I've become a big fan of these cute burlap banners that my friends makes.  Luckily for me (or unluckily?) she lives two doors down so they are far too easy to get!!  But they add so much to a room.
I love my Door Bucket arrangement so much that I only take it down for Christmas so I like to change up my tiered basket for the holidays/seasons to change up the look.  I've said over and over that your front door is the first welcome to your home so it should be very inviting.
I'm constantly changing up the centerpiece on my formal dining table, probably because we only sit here for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners or when we have a houseful of people that can't all fit in the breakfast nook.  But I've fallen in love with this glass look, which is one that is easy to change simply by adding different things to the glass hurricane's.  Look how little my boys are?  They are growing up way too fast.
Conversation Hearts are such a great candy to use for decoration.  And I'm sure your teeth and dentist will thank you for using them like this instead of eating them (although I could probably eat a whole bag in one sitting).
I found this cute little birds nest at Michael's and, as usual, got the wrong size.  They have a smaller one that I thought would be too small but, of course, the big one just barely fit sitting on top.
A few simple Valentine items placed about change up the look without taking up too much room.  I really love the tulips dripping down out of the lantern.

Did I mention how much I like burlap pennants?  If you want to order for yourself, check out Distinctive Decorating for all her pieces or to place an order!

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...

The Olympics

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've last posted a message. I guess it's been due to a combination of being really busy and not having much to say! Is that a contradiction? We've been letting Jack stay up late since Friday so that he could enjoy the Olympics. He really enjoyed the opening ceremony and has been in awe of the gymnastics. We went to a BBQ on Sunday night and just as we were getting ready to leave they put the ladies gymnastics on and all the kids say and watched. We had to drag Jack away. In other news, we're getting ready to do a really crazy thing. After only two months of having no debt and house payment, we're putting in an offer on a new home! We really had no plans to do this, but when we went to visit our friends on Sunday, we decided to drive around and look at the houses there. We had looked in there back before Ethan was born and fell in love with the place so we thought we'd just take a look and see how much i...

Busy week

It's been a busy week with little things here and there, which is getting me ready for the busy summer ahead of us with gymnastics, swimming and all Ethan's therapies. Whew, I need a break from just thinking about it. We did have a nice walk down to our community playground this afternoon. Ethan couldn't stop laughing on the swings and the slide (he couldn't get enough of the slide) and Jack made a little friend! Great afternoon. Speaking of therapies, Ethan starts his occupational therapy next week and I'm so excited. We got the therapy notes back from his evaluation and, while I'm not positive on how I'm reading it, the scores say from poor to very poor. We have been very lucky that Ethan hasn't had any medical issues and so far he seems to be doing well with responding to his therapies, so I really want to make sure he has the best of everything. Today has just made me a little blue thinking about Ethan not being 100% of what other kids are and ...
