Back To School

Summer is over and the boys are back in school. Now, if only we could get a relief from this 100 degree weather!

Our routine is starting to settle into place, as the two big boys trudge off to school early in the morning and Wyatt gets to enjoy some one on one time with mommy.

Of course, I was just as excited as the boys for school, I jumped head first into school duties, volunteering to be room mom for Jack's kindergarten class, joining the PTA at his school and volunteering for the Teacher Appreciation group. I have such fond memories of my mother volunteering and being a part of my schooling, that I feel fortunate enough to be able to do the same for my kids.

You can see from these photos how happy the boys were to start school - and you will also see from these photos how dark it is in the morning. That's because the bus comes BEFORE 7am! Crazy!

But both boys came home the first day with big smiles on their faces. Ethan excitedly answered "yes!" to did you have a good day at school? And Jack ran off the bus, into my arms with a big love and kiss and excitedly told me that he had so much fun and wanted to go back tomorrow! I laughed and told him that was good, because he had about 180 more days to go!

Jack was excited to take the bus and most excited that he got to ride the bus with Hunter from next door. Hunter is in 4th grade and has become a good friend with Jack - he was Jack's first sleepover this summer. And it helped both Jack and me that the first day of riding the bus and a new school, Jack had Hunter to ride with him and then walk him to his classroom. I think it took away the anxiety that we both might have felt. And I didn't even cry (although I did get teary eyed filling out some school forms the night before - realizing how much he is growing up).

And of course, Ethan was more than happy to get back to school and the bus. He's still waving and blowing kisses with a big smile on his face every day! His talking has improved greatly, as well. It makes my heart very full to see him enjoying his life so much. You worry with a special needs child but my worries have been put mostly to rest.

And then there's Wyatt...my trouble child. He woke up that first day to find both his brother's gone and I think he felt a bit lost. He spent all morning getting into things he didn't belong in (the garbage, the cleaners under the sink, on top of the breakfast table, etc.). It's funny how much they need and want to be with each other.

It's gotten a lot better now that we're a few days into it but I have to spend more time with him, so we've been doing projects (laundry, dishes, errands) together and that seems to have helped.

I've also started letting Wyatt feed himself more. I knew he needed to and once I did, he knew exactly what to do. Why does the last one always grow up the fastest???

Now that is the face of a troublemaker?

But who could resist one so cute?

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was

The Olympics

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've last posted a message. I guess it's been due to a combination of being really busy and not having much to say! Is that a contradiction? We've been letting Jack stay up late since Friday so that he could enjoy the Olympics. He really enjoyed the opening ceremony and has been in awe of the gymnastics. We went to a BBQ on Sunday night and just as we were getting ready to leave they put the ladies gymnastics on and all the kids say and watched. We had to drag Jack away. In other news, we're getting ready to do a really crazy thing. After only two months of having no debt and house payment, we're putting in an offer on a new home! We really had no plans to do this, but when we went to visit our friends on Sunday, we decided to drive around and look at the houses there. We had looked in there back before Ethan was born and fell in love with the place so we thought we'd just take a look and see how much i

Last Day in Prague

Our last full day in Prague. We had a late night parting the night before and a very early morning excursion but this was the one I was excited for! We did a similar excursion in Italy and loved it too. This was an awesome city bike tour to the Vysehrad Castle. We stopped for photo ops along the way - including here along the Charles River. But it's all fun and games until someone gets stopped by the Polizia! Before we left on our trip I was told to make sure you stay away from the police, so I was surprised to come up the big steep hill to see Jason stopped by one. I guess our tour guides didn't get the permit to ride in the park (too close to kids and a school). We had all just come up a big steep hill and were separated from the front of our group. Jason stopped to wait for me and the rest of the group to make sure we knew where to go. We had three guides, on leading, one in the middle who pulled away from Jason, and then one at the back.
