Ethan's Early Birthday Celebration

With all the stress of having the Medicaid form filled out and sent, we were all ready for a relaxing fun-filled weekend with Daddy - home for a three day weekend! Well, all that went out the window Friday afternoon when the kitchen and great room (and Jason's room) lights went out. I went down to flip the circuit switch but nothing happened after trying several things. We managed to get by with a dark kitchen for the afternoon/evening until Jason got home. Turns out I just didn't flip the right switch (even though it was marked). I felt stupid, but would have felt worse if I had called an electrician! Luckily Jason was able to come home and save the day! But I did make up for it in Monday night (see story below).

I can' believe that in five short days Ethan will be 2 years old! He has come such a long way, and I have to say, so have I! I had a lot of dark days in the beginning, dealing with his Down syndrome diagnosis, but I have to say, I can't even remember the last time I thought about it. I know it's a bit harder and more time consuming dealing with getting him to learn things, but he has taught me so much in return that he is nothing more than just a blessing to our family. All kids have their issues and keeping that in mind has really helped get past the hard days. I've made some great friends through Ethan and his therapies and so has Jack.

This weekend we had our family celebration of Ethan's birthday, since Jason won't be with us when we travel to Seattle to celebrate the official day. I made a yummy carrot cake and Jack blew out Ethan's candles, since Ethan can't blow yet and really didn't get the concept of what to do! But he really liked the cake! I have to say, it was really nice to have a casual party and not have to worry about inviting friends and putting together goody bags. Kids parties these days seem to be so out of control. And even though we've only done home parties, it's a lot more work when you have to have people over.

That doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to the party we're having in Seattle for Ethan and my dad, but it's more of an open house instead of a birthday party. And there's no decorations or party bags to worry about!

We were so laid back about the whole birthday thing that we didn't even wrap Ethan's birthday presents. I know that sounds horrible, but he's two and doesn't understand. And we just had Christmas, where he had lots of presents to open. So I'm going to enjoy it this time, as I probably won't be able to get away with it ever again!

We're wrapping up the week with a doctor's appointment on Thursday and a playdate on Friday (after a birthday party and gymnastics yesterday) and then hopping on a plane Saturday evening for a week in Seattle and a week in Phoenix. For those of you in those two locations, we can't wait to see you! Jack is beyond excited to fly and get to Seattle and especially visit Granny in Phoenix, as he doesn't remember when we were there last (he was only just over a year). Now, I just have to figure out how to lightly pack for a week in the cold and a week in the warmth....

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...
We have traveled around the SE for lacrosse tournaments in the past but this year we had the opportunity to travel to Denver, CO for one. I think it was one of my favorite. We tried to make it a family vacation as well, so we traveled in early the day before and spent some time exploring.  We headed down to Rock Park in Castle Rock and did a little hiking.  See that big rock in the background? Yup, the boys climbed all the way to the top. Ethan and I made it to the base of the rock while Jason, Jack and Wyatt climbed up top.  Ethan and I messing around waiting on the other boys.  Photos of the boys up top.  Our first game was an evening game, so we had most of the day to explore and get used to the altitude (which definitely got to the boys once they got on the field). The fun part of having good friends on the same lacrosse team is you get to explore together. We all drove up to Red Rocks to expl...

Summer is Lacrosse

This summer was especially busy for us as Jack played on TWO travel lacrosse teams and Wyatt played his first year on one. We only had one weekend where Jason and Wyatt headed off to Nashville, TN while Jack, Ethan and I stayed here for each of their tournaments.  This was Wyatt's oh-so-happy-to-get-his-photo-taken face before they headed out to Nashville. I just loved the shirt!!  This was the set up we had for Jack's tournament in town. Ethan was happy as a clam with shade and his iPad!!  Jack had a phenomenal first tournament and was directly responsible for almost all the teams goals. He looked awesome and he joked it was because his annoying youngest brother wasn't around. Boys!  Just a few shots of Jack playing.  Summer also means supporting our local professional field lacrosse team, The Atlanta Blaze. Jack and his buddy Zac had the privilege of working with the team's head coach through the local youth Thund...
