Snow Day

They were calling for maybe a couple of inches of snow on Friday, December 8th, so it wasn't much of a surprise to wake up and see the snow coming down. It was pretty light and not really sticking to the roads so I sent Wyatt and Ethan off to school on the bus. Jack wasn't feeling well so he stayed home sick.

It was so pretty - and so unusual to get so early in December in the South.

I had to turn the Christmas lights on because I loved how the snow looked with them on. It made it felt even more Christmasy to me.

But then it kept coming down.
And it started to stick to everything.
And then the announced they were releasing kids early from school.

Since we live in a neighborhood with a lot of hills, and we had a four wheel drive vehicle, I thought it would be better to pick the boys up from school ourselves and have one less kid for the bus driver to have to cart home. Plus, I felt safer knowing Jason was driving then someone else.

This was our view to the school at about 11am.

We got the boys home safely and then they were off to play. Ethan said, uh, no it's too cold. I'm going inside.

We had the best snow for sledding.

And the boys played for a long time.

 And it just kept snowing!

It was so pretty with the Christmas decorations that I had to get a few shots.

And one of me, just for fun! But I liked the weird lighting my phone gave me.

It was all fun and games until we lost power.
While I had dinner in the oven.

So up the street to the pizza place we went with our neighbors.
It was only 7pm but it was STILL snowing.
The power eventually came on about 10:30p - just in time to warm us all up and charge up all our devices before going out again the next morning around 7a.

And when we woke up without power, it was still snowing.
But it was letting up.

Back outside the boys went to play.

It was a thick, heavy snow that made a lot of trees bend and break.

But perfect for sledding. And our street was perfect to play on with lots of kids and lots of hilly yards to take advantage of.

We even got Ethan outside for one sled ride down the hill.
But he didn't like it so it was short lived.

By dinnertime we were still without power (thankfully we have a gas fireplace that allowed a little bit of heat) and unable to cook so this time we headed up to the local Mexican place to eat.

I love that Wyatt wanted to wear his bear hat with everything. It was so cute. I just had to get creative with my picture taking of him.

The power finally came back on at the house, after about 12 hours, while we were at dinner.
We ended up with about 11+ inches of snow, the hardest hit area, but were fortunate in that we only lost power for the day. Some in the area were without for almost a week.
A fun way to start the holiday's but it sure created havok on my schedule for getting things done prior to Christmas.

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...
We have traveled around the SE for lacrosse tournaments in the past but this year we had the opportunity to travel to Denver, CO for one. I think it was one of my favorite. We tried to make it a family vacation as well, so we traveled in early the day before and spent some time exploring.  We headed down to Rock Park in Castle Rock and did a little hiking.  See that big rock in the background? Yup, the boys climbed all the way to the top. Ethan and I made it to the base of the rock while Jason, Jack and Wyatt climbed up top.  Ethan and I messing around waiting on the other boys.  Photos of the boys up top.  Our first game was an evening game, so we had most of the day to explore and get used to the altitude (which definitely got to the boys once they got on the field). The fun part of having good friends on the same lacrosse team is you get to explore together. We all drove up to Red Rocks to expl...

Summer is Lacrosse

This summer was especially busy for us as Jack played on TWO travel lacrosse teams and Wyatt played his first year on one. We only had one weekend where Jason and Wyatt headed off to Nashville, TN while Jack, Ethan and I stayed here for each of their tournaments.  This was Wyatt's oh-so-happy-to-get-his-photo-taken face before they headed out to Nashville. I just loved the shirt!!  This was the set up we had for Jack's tournament in town. Ethan was happy as a clam with shade and his iPad!!  Jack had a phenomenal first tournament and was directly responsible for almost all the teams goals. He looked awesome and he joked it was because his annoying youngest brother wasn't around. Boys!  Just a few shots of Jack playing.  Summer also means supporting our local professional field lacrosse team, The Atlanta Blaze. Jack and his buddy Zac had the privilege of working with the team's head coach through the local youth Thund...
