Changing Up the Decor

Every season I like to switch things up around the house, just to keep it interesting. I've been looking for floor lamps FOREVER but had been unable to find anything I really liked.

Then my girlfriend posted she was moving out of state and selling most of her home decor and furniture. While I was super sad to see her go, I seized upon her good taste in decor and scooped up two floor lamps and two buffet lamps.

One floor lamp went in the formal living room - it was hard to capture the look of the light on.

But with it off you can see it tucked into the corner of the room by the bar area.

And the buffet lamps look perfect in the formal dining room.

I played around with the look of the table upstairs in the area between Ethan and Wyatt's room. I love the added softness of a table lamp to light up the hallway instead of just the overhead lights. I tried to get the hall clock to work but I think it's too old. However, I love the look of it and then added in a family photo and the globe. Perfect!

The second floor lamp is in the upstairs playroom. You can see the reflection in the window. This addition to the room makes it feel so much more cozy and warm.

I'm going through a decluttering phase and wanted to pair down the nick-knacks on the shelves in the formal living room. I want a more classic look. This is where it first landed but I wasn't happy with that first shelf (it was still too cluttered). But I had to live with it for a few days to figure out what I wanted (and what I already had lying around the house).

This is the final look and I'm so much happier. Three small vases with a few forever flowers that came from upstairs that I no longer wanted. I removed the plates from the bottom and moved over all our picture books. What do you think?

 A view of the room.

This side of the shelves is still a bit too cluttered but I'm not sure where I want to go with it yet so I just live with it until inspiration hits.

Into the formal dining room we go. I have never been fully happy with this room. The layout is awkward due to the bay window and columns. I had a mirror and some pictures on this wall but it never felt right. So I decided to move some metal plaques from the master bedroom down. I bit better but still not quite right.

Maybe I need to switch up the furniture placement....

So we moved the buffet table to the other wall...

And switched the angle the table was facing.

I'm MUCH happier with this placement but after living with it for a few days we decided that the biggest issue was the table (which I haven't liked since almost the day we bought it!). At some point we will find a big round table to help fill in the bay window portion of the room. One day...

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...
We have traveled around the SE for lacrosse tournaments in the past but this year we had the opportunity to travel to Denver, CO for one. I think it was one of my favorite. We tried to make it a family vacation as well, so we traveled in early the day before and spent some time exploring.  We headed down to Rock Park in Castle Rock and did a little hiking.  See that big rock in the background? Yup, the boys climbed all the way to the top. Ethan and I made it to the base of the rock while Jason, Jack and Wyatt climbed up top.  Ethan and I messing around waiting on the other boys.  Photos of the boys up top.  Our first game was an evening game, so we had most of the day to explore and get used to the altitude (which definitely got to the boys once they got on the field). The fun part of having good friends on the same lacrosse team is you get to explore together. We all drove up to Red Rocks to expl...

Summer is Lacrosse

This summer was especially busy for us as Jack played on TWO travel lacrosse teams and Wyatt played his first year on one. We only had one weekend where Jason and Wyatt headed off to Nashville, TN while Jack, Ethan and I stayed here for each of their tournaments.  This was Wyatt's oh-so-happy-to-get-his-photo-taken face before they headed out to Nashville. I just loved the shirt!!  This was the set up we had for Jack's tournament in town. Ethan was happy as a clam with shade and his iPad!!  Jack had a phenomenal first tournament and was directly responsible for almost all the teams goals. He looked awesome and he joked it was because his annoying youngest brother wasn't around. Boys!  Just a few shots of Jack playing.  Summer also means supporting our local professional field lacrosse team, The Atlanta Blaze. Jack and his buddy Zac had the privilege of working with the team's head coach through the local youth Thund...
