Home Sweet Valentine Home

Since we are about a week away from Valentine's Day, I thought it was time to decorate for the holiday. While I am not a big fan of the day for me personally, I do enjoy decorating and celebrating with the kids.

Here I made a little change to the entry way and I have to say, the EASIEST way to change up a room or area for a special day is with cute little burlap banners. I've managed to collect one for every holiday or season it seems.

It used to be that I would decorate every part of the house but these days, with three very active and involved kids, I've started to keep it simple by mainly decorating our formal dining room and then bits and pieces in the rooms we spend the most time in.

I came across taller birds on sale at Michael's the other day and scooped up two for my dining room pillar holders. They are two different colors but both blue and both fit the color theme.  Bonus that you can see it better than the little ones I had there before (see older post).

Can you see the bird there in the background on the wall?

I also have become a bit obsessed with table runners. Mainly with finding the right size. I love the small square one I got after Christmas but with my big metal tray that I'm now keeping on the table, it hid too much of it. Then I found this PERFECT length one - not too short and not too long. Now I've got options and can switch them up depending on my centerpiece.

 Another view.

With our 5 month-old puppy I've had a very difficult time keeping plants alive in this space by the front door. If he can reach it he will eat the leaves. Sigh.

I'm hoping this forever bouquet I whipped up today will be tall enough that he can't reach it.

I'm pretty happy with the final results, although it might need one more tall leave in the back.
There's always something to tweak! LOL

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was

The Olympics

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've last posted a message. I guess it's been due to a combination of being really busy and not having much to say! Is that a contradiction? We've been letting Jack stay up late since Friday so that he could enjoy the Olympics. He really enjoyed the opening ceremony and has been in awe of the gymnastics. We went to a BBQ on Sunday night and just as we were getting ready to leave they put the ladies gymnastics on and all the kids say and watched. We had to drag Jack away. In other news, we're getting ready to do a really crazy thing. After only two months of having no debt and house payment, we're putting in an offer on a new home! We really had no plans to do this, but when we went to visit our friends on Sunday, we decided to drive around and look at the houses there. We had looked in there back before Ethan was born and fell in love with the place so we thought we'd just take a look and see how much i

Last Day in Prague

Our last full day in Prague. We had a late night parting the night before and a very early morning excursion but this was the one I was excited for! We did a similar excursion in Italy and loved it too. This was an awesome city bike tour to the Vysehrad Castle. We stopped for photo ops along the way - including here along the Charles River. But it's all fun and games until someone gets stopped by the Polizia! Before we left on our trip I was told to make sure you stay away from the police, so I was surprised to come up the big steep hill to see Jason stopped by one. I guess our tour guides didn't get the permit to ride in the park (too close to kids and a school). We had all just come up a big steep hill and were separated from the front of our group. Jason stopped to wait for me and the rest of the group to make sure we knew where to go. We had three guides, on leading, one in the middle who pulled away from Jason, and then one at the back.
