Our Newest Family Member

Jack has been asking for a dog for several months but with the crazy summer we had traveling and then starting the potty training with Ethan I was not ready to add more craziness to the mix.

This past October I finally commented a few weeks ago that I was ready to start looking -- thinking we could start visiting the animal pound and looking at dogs, waiting for the perfect one to find us.  Well, not more than four hours after I made the comment to Jason that I was ready to start looking/talking about adding a dog to the family I think Jason had found a local dalmatian breeder and had paid for one.

Gulp - we are all in!
Meet Bandit - at the time of this photo he was 10 weeks old.
We actually drove out to the breeder to surprise the boys by showing them the new liter we would be picking from but as we drove away (they were a few weeks away from adoption age) Jack was so sad that we decided to turn around and adopt an older puppy instead.  Needless to say, the boys were happy!
Dalmatians, by breed, are a very smart dog, which we've learned already.  He crate trained himself within a couple of days!!
There are also a unique breed in that they stay in the puppy phase for two years. Gulp, yes that is TWO YEARS!
I can handle it as long as that doesn't mean he chews on things for two years.
Now, at almost 15 weeks he is basically potty trained, knows his name, comes when called (most of the time) and can sit on command. His biggest issue, as with all puppies, is the chewing on EVERYTHING -- his favorite thing to chew on being Wyatt.
He is a dog that is full of energy but with three boys it's not too much of a problem to wear him out.

He also likes to chew in Ethan's stuffed gorilla and when he gets to be too much for Ethan he'll shout, "No - shoo!"  It's the cutest thing ever!!
I think it's safe to say he is happy here!!
Now if only I could crate train the boys.

He REALLY wants to play with Amber but she is still skeptical of this new pack member.  Luckily our next-door neighbors have a little dog that loves to play with Bandit. Wonder how he will react when Bandit is three times his size?

He is such a little lover and is most content when he can lay in your lap and in the morning when he crawls in bed with Jason, he loves to nibble on his chin.
He is crazy obsessive with the dog bones we give him but super sweet and loving with everyone.
Above all he is Jack's dog. He sleeps with him at night (when he doesn't want to be in his crate) and loves to nap on Jack's clothes when he doesn't put them away after I wash and fold them.  Jack has taken on a lot of the responsibility of caring for him, which has helped.
It's amazing how fast they grow - he looks so little here and it was only a couple weeks ago.
A boy and his dog - LOVE!

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...

The Olympics

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've last posted a message. I guess it's been due to a combination of being really busy and not having much to say! Is that a contradiction? We've been letting Jack stay up late since Friday so that he could enjoy the Olympics. He really enjoyed the opening ceremony and has been in awe of the gymnastics. We went to a BBQ on Sunday night and just as we were getting ready to leave they put the ladies gymnastics on and all the kids say and watched. We had to drag Jack away. In other news, we're getting ready to do a really crazy thing. After only two months of having no debt and house payment, we're putting in an offer on a new home! We really had no plans to do this, but when we went to visit our friends on Sunday, we decided to drive around and look at the houses there. We had looked in there back before Ethan was born and fell in love with the place so we thought we'd just take a look and see how much i...

Busy week

It's been a busy week with little things here and there, which is getting me ready for the busy summer ahead of us with gymnastics, swimming and all Ethan's therapies. Whew, I need a break from just thinking about it. We did have a nice walk down to our community playground this afternoon. Ethan couldn't stop laughing on the swings and the slide (he couldn't get enough of the slide) and Jack made a little friend! Great afternoon. Speaking of therapies, Ethan starts his occupational therapy next week and I'm so excited. We got the therapy notes back from his evaluation and, while I'm not positive on how I'm reading it, the scores say from poor to very poor. We have been very lucky that Ethan hasn't had any medical issues and so far he seems to be doing well with responding to his therapies, so I really want to make sure he has the best of everything. Today has just made me a little blue thinking about Ethan not being 100% of what other kids are and ...
