Halo for Big Boys

Jason ended our summer vacation from school the same way he started it -- traveling.  This time he was completing his two week Army Annual Training.  Normally he's off three or four states away doing some exciting training of some sort.  This year they stayed in Alabama (he's in the Alabama National Guard) to do some classwork.  In fact, he was closer than he normally would be for just a drill weekend - Anniston and Gadston, AL as opposed to a town by the Alabama - Florida line.

On the last Saturday (August 3rd) Jason completed his final jump with the military, as he will be retiring in twenty-something months (insert happy dance here) !!!  Since it was only an hour and 45 minute drive, I took the boys over to watch the final jump -- also Jason's first out of a Blackhawk helicopter.
Jason was the third person to jump and if you look really close, you will see him in the middle of that row of guys.
Jack's friend Reed came along with us and the boys LOVED it.  As soon as the rotors started going the boys got really excited and said to me, "it's just like a real life Halo game!"  Needless to say after that they were running around "shooting" at everything!!
Look, up in the sky.  It's a bird, it's a plane -- no it's the Alabama National Guard.
There he is, falling from the sky.
Jason is that speck, smack dab in the middle of the picture.

This reminds me of when Jack was about 18 months old and Jason was doing Airborne School down at Ft. Benning.  My mom came into town and we drove down to watch Jason do his final jump before graduation.
Ethan took a bit to warm up to what was going on, but once he saw everything, he kept his eye on the helicopter every time it landed and took off, and then every time the men started falling from the sky.
 Reunited with Daddy.
After awhile Daddy went back to talk to the men, Jack, Reed and Wyatt found a place to play Halo and Ethan made friends with the little girl belonging to the family behind him in this picture.

It was a great day and so fun for the boys to watch Daddy jump.

Having a Great Visit with Aunt Delly

I know it's been a VERY long time since I've last posted, but it's hard when you have company in town. Plus, I've been especially exhausted this past week. Jack get's so excited when we have visitors that he gets even crazier than normal! September should be fun when we have Daddy, Granny and Grandma in town. I've been continuously changing up our great room bookshelves, so I thought I would post a photo for you to see. If anyone has more ideas on how to make it look better, let me know. These are some pictures of Jack at gymnastics. He has gotten so much better at this club. They do a lot more strengthening stuff than the old place. Plus they have an older boys class so they don't just teach girly stuff at this age. It's been fun to see him do so well. Of course, a lot of time he still goofs around, trying to fall off stuff, but for the most part he's pretty good at staying on task. Last week they did the monkey bars and he LOVED it and was...

The Olympics

Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I've last posted a message. I guess it's been due to a combination of being really busy and not having much to say! Is that a contradiction? We've been letting Jack stay up late since Friday so that he could enjoy the Olympics. He really enjoyed the opening ceremony and has been in awe of the gymnastics. We went to a BBQ on Sunday night and just as we were getting ready to leave they put the ladies gymnastics on and all the kids say and watched. We had to drag Jack away. In other news, we're getting ready to do a really crazy thing. After only two months of having no debt and house payment, we're putting in an offer on a new home! We really had no plans to do this, but when we went to visit our friends on Sunday, we decided to drive around and look at the houses there. We had looked in there back before Ethan was born and fell in love with the place so we thought we'd just take a look and see how much i...

Busy week

It's been a busy week with little things here and there, which is getting me ready for the busy summer ahead of us with gymnastics, swimming and all Ethan's therapies. Whew, I need a break from just thinking about it. We did have a nice walk down to our community playground this afternoon. Ethan couldn't stop laughing on the swings and the slide (he couldn't get enough of the slide) and Jack made a little friend! Great afternoon. Speaking of therapies, Ethan starts his occupational therapy next week and I'm so excited. We got the therapy notes back from his evaluation and, while I'm not positive on how I'm reading it, the scores say from poor to very poor. We have been very lucky that Ethan hasn't had any medical issues and so far he seems to be doing well with responding to his therapies, so I really want to make sure he has the best of everything. Today has just made me a little blue thinking about Ethan not being 100% of what other kids are and ...
