Trip Extended

It's been so nice being here with Jason and being a family. I can only imagine how hard it's going to be when we leave here. For both the boys and myself. Not to mention Jason.....

But the good news is that we have decided to extend our trip through August. We'll be leaving on Sunday the 23rd. Then it will only be a week and a half before Granny comes to visit and Jason comes home for Labor Day weekend.

I was concerned how Ethan would do without all of his therapies for a few weeks but it seems like he's making some big strides. He is now holding his own sippy cup and drinking from it. And the other day I was holding him up and he took steps (with me still holding him) to turn around to face me! I was so excited. I've been trying to work with him a lot but it's been hard to spend much time in this small apartment before going stir crazy.

We've got lots of fun coming up over the next couple of weeks. Jason has a three day weekend this weekend so we're going to do a bit of exploring around Fayetteville (children's museum, animal ranch, etc.) and maybe take a drive out to the North Carolina coast. Next weekend we've booked a hotel for two nights in Myrtle Beach, SC and I'm so excited. I've always wanted to go there and it will be fun to experience the beach in the summer -- normally we visit Daytona Beach, FL in November so it will be quite a different experience!

I'll try and post every few days on here without pics and then when I get home at the end of the month just post blogs filled with pictures.

Beach Days

I have impressed myself by getting these pictures posted early today by taking advantage of Ethan's nap and then Jack playing with him! Just a quick note to update everyone, today we met with Jack's preschool teacher and saw his classroom. He's very excited to start school, which I JUST now realized is NEXT Tuesday, not the Tuesday after Labor Day. Wow, it will be so strange to have him gone 3 hours, 3 days a week. But Ethan will love the one on one time and I have volunteered to be a class mom for a couple of their class parties. These are photos of our day trip to Wrightsville Beach just outside of Wilmington, NC. I really loved this area and the boys had a great time playing in the sand and water.  We have traveled around the SE for lacrosse tournaments in the past but this year we had the opportunity to travel to Denver, CO for one. I think it was one of my favorite. We tried to make it a family vacation as well, so we traveled in early the day before and spent some time exploring.  We headed down to Rock Park in Castle Rock and did a little hiking.  See that big rock in the background? Yup, the boys climbed all the way to the top. Ethan's Eye Appointment

We had Ethan's first eye appointment this morning to look at his lazy eye. And, as usual, he is proving to be amazing! The doctor gave us some really great news. He said Ethan appears to have a bit of farsightedness but that it's fairly common for this age and he sees no need for glasses. Both of his eyes are healthy on top and bottom and that the lazy / cross-eye is fairly typical for Down's babies. At this point, he sees nothing that needs to be dealt with, as it's not a constant issue and he seems to correct himself pretty quickly. We'll go back at the beginning of October to have his eyes looked at again, unless we see any dramatic changes between now and then. But the doctor seems to think he'll be just fine and it may even be something he grows out of. Jason and I are relieved that there is one more typical Down's issue that we don't have to worry about as of yet! We're looking forward to a fun filled weekend that hopefully included some ...
